Born in Osaka in 1941, Tadao Ando taught himself architecture and founded Tadao Ando Architect & Associates in Osaka in 1969, exactly half a century ago. During this time, Ando has become recognized as one of the world’s preeminent contemporary architects: works of his design have been built, exhibitions and lectures have been held, and books about him are sold in every major country of the world.

The current exhibition, Early Drawings of Tadao Ando: Autonomy and Dialogue, showcases hand-drawn architectural plans and sketches related to works constructed in Japan during Ando’s early period up to around 1990.
