Le Corbusier (1887-1965), designer of the National Museum of Western Art’s M’ain Building, was not only a major 20th century architect, he was also a multitalented, artist active in a huge range of media, from painting to sculpture, prints, tapestry and film.

He spent every morning in his studio painting and every afternoon, in his architectural office, a rare creative talent capable of switching effortlessly between different realms. Le Corbusier went so far as to state that he considered his paintings and drawings as important as his architecture, and that. the key to a true understanding of his architecture could be found in those art works.

This exhibition exploring Le Corbusier as artist has been organized with the cooperation of the Foundation Le Corbusier in Paris and the Taisei Corporation, holders of one of the world’s major collections of Le Corbusier art works.
