When I first began to work in Luis Barragan’s atelier in 1964, I was not aware of the existence of the Chapel in Tlalpan.
I came across series of beautiful photographs by Armando Salas Portugal, that immediately aroused my curiosity and, shortly afterwards, I had the opportunity of becoming acquainted with this Chapel: the quartz lamps that light the exterior of the Chapel during the night services were out of order, and that was the occasion when I first visited the Chapel.
It had rained during the night and it was a bright sunny morning; steam was rising from the wet floor of the patio. Everything within sight was impeccably clean and in perfect order. I had the impression that I was・in a totally different dimension far removed from everyday reality.
