Tokyo Station Gallery and Hyogo Prefectural Museum of Art take great pleasure in presenting the Exhibition titled Tadao Ando : Regeneration—Surroundings and Architecture.
The stage for Tadao Ando’s architectural works is not only in Japan but extends to many countries around the world. His creations are not limited to the world of architecture, but are widely acclaimed and supported by public people as well. Why Tadao Ando’s works are acknowledged and acclaimed so extensively? Ando often uses a word “Fukei” -Landscape or Scenery -as a keyword when he explains his thought and feelings behind his architectural embodiments.
Creating a place which has such power that encourages people, who experiences and feels the architectural space, finding spiritual bases as memories of a community — this activity could be deemed as “regeneration” of the lost memories of the cities. Tadao Ando searches for the key to “regeneration” in the dialogue between architecture and its surroundings.
