Le Corbusier is one of the best-known architects and urban planners of the 20th Century, but he was also a prolific creator of paintings, sculptures, and other works. His creativity extended in many different directions, unbound by conventional genres, and has left a wonderful heritage for the 21st Century.

Le Corbusier’s paintings, sketches, prints, tapestries, architecture, urban planning, furniture, and other works are exhibited here with equal priority, providing an all round introduction to his life of creativity. A special feature of this exhibition is the construction of three full-size reproductions, one of the artist’s studio he designed for himself in Paris, one of a two-level apartment from the Unite d’Habitation in Marseilles, and one of Le Petit Cabanon, a summerhouse he built on a slope facing the Mediterranean.

These reproductions give visitors a unique opportunity to gain a real feel for the scale and proportions of his work. Perhaps no other architect has had such an influence on architecture in Japan as Le Corbusier. At a time when Japan was attempting to modernize and rebuild, his search for human ways of living within the framework of a modern world provided many hints and ideas for the construction of the new society that Japan aspired to.
