The apartment block located at number 24, rue Nungesser et Coli in Paris, designed and constructed between 1931 and 1934 by Le Corbusier and Pierre Jeanneret, has seldom figured as one of the major Projects undertaken by these two architects.

Instead, it has remained very much in the background, when compared, for example, with the much-celebrated Savoye villa, the Clarte apartment block, or the Swiss Pavilion, projects carried out during the same period. Admittedly, on a purely structural level, this architectural work does not emanate the provocative style that otherwise characterises Corbusian masterpieces.

Of classical external design, this building at first glance appears to be merely a typical town apartment house. However, behind this outward form lies a hidden message conveying the expression of modern thought, implicit in the transparency of its facades which “open out onto nature and its environment”.
