The Villa Savoye at Poissy-sur-Seine is related to the whole range of Le Corbusier’s architecture and urban planning.
Built between 1929-1931, the last of Le Corbusier’s so called ‘Four Compositions’, the Villa Savoye illustrates with extreme clarity and is perhaps the most faithful in its observation of his ‘Five Points of a New Architecture’ made in 1925: “The columns; the roof garden; the free plan; the long window; the free facade.”
However, the Villa Savoye is much more than a part of Le Corbusier’s rational development and clarification of an architectural doctrine. It is a masterwork of modern architecture-a poetic interpretation of life exemplary of Le Corbusier’s grand unity of purpose and indicative of the coherent continuity of the whole of his creative process.
