The fact that Frank Lloyd Wright admired and collected the art work of old Japan is known the world over. During a period of close to seventy years the architect amassed a collection of wood block prints, folding screens, textiles, bronzes, and wood carvings. He adorned his home Taliesin with these objects, both in the interiors and in the courts and gardens.

The Frank Lloyd Wright Foundation, successor to the work and collections of Frank Lloyd Wright, is the proud owner of these objects today. Recent conservation, funded generously by Japanese and American sources, has brought several folding screens and Kosodes back to their original glory.

The rare collection of surimono was, for a long time, stored in a simple wooden box in the vaults at Taliesin. Such obscure confinement guaranteed the preservation of their original delicate, and sometimes, vibrant colors.
